At Cannabis Corner, we’ve always believed that cannabis is more than a product, it’s a community, a culture, and a movement. From the very beginning, we poured our heart and soul into building our Instagram page @CannabisCornerNY. It was more than a profile, it was a hub for education, connection, and celebration of New York’s growing adult-use cannabis industry.

Unfortunately, despite our best efforts to follow every guideline set by Meta (Instagram’s parent company), our page was taken down. We didn’t break the rules. And yet, our page disappeared.

The Problem with Social Media and Cannabis

This isn’t just our story, it’s a challenge every cannabis business faces. Social media platforms enforce blanket restrictions on cannabis content, even in states like New York where cannabis is legal, licensed, and regulated.

Meanwhile, alcohol brands, tobacco companies, and pharmaceutical ads thrive on the same platforms. The inconsistency is frustrating, and it sends a message that cannabis, a plant that is legally sold in licensed dispensaries — is still being treated as if it exists in the shadows.

Why This Matters for the Industry

The adult-use cannabis industry in New York is more than just a market. It’s an opportunity to undo decades of stigma, to create jobs, to generate tax revenue, and to build equitable businesses that serve their communities. But when social media platforms silence licensed operators, they cut us off from the very communities we’re here to serve.

For Cannabis Corner, losing our Instagram page wasn’t just about losing followers. We lost:

  • A space where we could educate customers on safe and responsible consumption

  • A platform to highlight New York’s local growers and processors

  • A way to connect with neighbors, supporters, and advocates
